My sister just asked me for this, so I'm going to post it real quick.
This is the best traditional hummus recipe I have found. It's easy to remember, and even easier to make. It's also flexible enough to be creative with. Add some spinach if you want. Toss in some roasted peppers. Whateva.
1 15 oz can of chick peas (garbanzo beans)
1/4 cup of drained liquid from can of peas.
2.5 tablespoons of tahini
2 cloves of garlic (or more. Go crazy.)
3-5 tablespoons of lemon juice (which I have found is usually the same as half of a squeezed lemon, for easy measurement)
2 tablespoons of olive oil
1 tsp of cumin (or more. I love cumin.)
Salt and pepper to taste
You can also add any other spices you want. The idea is to be creative and keep adding things until you get it just how you want it.
Throw all ingredients in a food processor and blend. That's it. You can also do it in a regular blender but it doesn't usually work as well.
And that, my friends, is the secret to the best hummus ever.
Thank you. What is tahini?
ReplyDeleteIt's ground up sesame paste. Same texture as peanut butter. It's kind of expensive but a little goes a long way, and you can use it for a lot of different stuff. Great thickener. Cheapest I've found it is Farmer's Market.
